Drink City Cocktail Photography Contest

A cocktail, as Harry Croswell wrote in 1806, is “a stimulating liquor, composed of spirits of any kind, sugar, water, and bitters—it is vulgarly called bittered sling, and is supposed to be an excellent electioneering potion, inasmuch as it renders the heart stout and bold, at the same time that it fuddles the head.”

And now that we’re heading headlong into electioneering season, it’s as good a time as any to imbibe a bittered sling at home or out.  But before your head is fuddled, take a picture of the cocktail that you or yours is about to enjoy.  Share your photo, along with a brief description of what it is and where you had it, with DC Focused on Instagram (#dcfocused_drink) or in the DC Focused Flickr Pool between now and July 25.  If you’ve got the best shot, you’ll win a 2016 D.C. Passport.

The Passport, which is sort of like a field guide for drinking in D.C. this summer, is good for 2-for-1 specials through Labor Day at fifty bars and restaurants throughout the city.  Some of the participating establishments include Hank’s Oyster Bar in Dupont, Nanny O’Briens, Town Hall, Maple, and Church & State.  The winner will be announced July 26, along with another contest involving your best cocktail recipe.
